  1. COVID-19 Vaccinations: The world continues to battle the COVID-19 pandemic, and vaccinations remain a top priority. In recent news, Moderna announced that its COVID-19 vaccine is 93% effective six months after the second dose, and that it is developing a booster shot to protect against new variants of the virus.
  2. Pfizer’s Alzheimer’s Drug: Pfizer announced in January 2022 that its experimental Alzheimer’s drug, tanezumab, showed promising results in clinical trials. The drug works by reducing inflammation and pain in the brain, and could potentially slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.
  3. Cancer Screening: The American Cancer Society has recently updated its guidelines for cancer screening. They recommend that people at average risk for colorectal cancer should begin regular screening at age 45, instead of age 50 as previously recommended.
  4. Mental Health: Mental health continues to be a top concern for many, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. In February 2022, the FDA approved a new drug, called zuranolone, for the treatment of depression. The drug is administered as a once-daily pill and has shown promising results in clinical trials.
  5. Health Equity: The healthcare industry is making strides towards improving health equity, and there have been recent initiatives to increase access to healthcare for underserved communities. In January 2022, the Biden administration announced a $1 billion investment in rural healthcare, which will fund new clinics and improve existing healthcare infrastructure in rural areas.
